Bomb strikes funeral, killing 48 in Baghdad

Iraqis kill clan members for informing on al Qaeda

Gunmen in Iraqi military consistent broke into the homes of their own clan members on Monday and killed four people for notifying on al Qaeda.

Unconnectedly, a senior police officer was injured in a roadside bomb attack in Baghdad, as daily violence continued to clatter a country struggling to form a new government seven months after an open to doubt election.

In the most recent attack, nine gunmen tempest the homes of two families in al-Sila village south of Baghdad, detained five men and shot them execution-style on the shore of a nearby lake, said a security source. One lived and was hospitalized.

"This area was an al Qaeda stranglehold before," said the source, who spoke on state of anonymity. "It is inhabited by one tribe, but it is separated into two parts, with one loyal to al Qaeda and the other against it."

Attacks kill 3 Iraqi police

BAGHDAD – Officials say three police officers have been killed in late night attacks in 2 northern Iraqi cities, including a bombing that also injured 8 bystanders.

Police said a car bomb exploded Tuesday night near a popular cafe in Tarmiyah. A hospital official said the blast killed 2 police officers and 8 cafe customers.

Later, officials said attackers broke in the home of a policeman in the former insurgent stronghold of Samarra and killed him. A health worker confirmed the death.

Attacks on Iraqi security forces have stepped up in recent months as the U.S. military begins to withdraw from the country.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Bomber Strikes Iraqi Army Recruits, Killing at Least 61


A suicide bomber has killed at least 61 people in an assault at an army staffing center in Baghdad. More than 125 additional people are said to have been upset in the blast. The harass comes two weeks previous to a U.S. deadline to remove its combat crowds from Iraq.

The bomber strike as hundreds of workers had gathered waiting to present their applications. It was not obvious how the attacker passed many checkpoints to reach the center, at the former Defense Ministry in the heart of the assets.

Bureaucrat accused al-Qaida in Iraq of preparation the blast, the deadliest in months. There has been no direct claim of blame. Insurgents had vowed to step up attacks during Ramadan, the Islamic month of religious devotion that began last week.

High Iraq deaths cast doubt on US stability talk

BAGHDAD – While concern is rising in the U.S. about the war in Afghanistan, the Americans are anxious to show evidence of progress in their other conflict — Iraq.

New Iraqi government figures tell a different story, however, showing civilian casualties hitting their highest level in more than two years — figures the U.S. rushed on Sunday to dispute.

The rejection of the figures, compiled by the Iraqi ministries of defense, interior and health, comes at a delicate time. The American military has pronounced Iraq's security as stabilizing and is going ahead with plans to send home all but 50,000 troops by the end of the month, leaving Iraq's nascent security forces in control. The last American soldier is due to leave by the end of 2011.

Twin car bombs kill 25 in Iraqi city of Karbala

BAGHDAD – 2 car bombs targeting Shiite pilgrims during a religious festival in the holy city of Karbala killed 25 people on Monday, Iraqi police and hospital officials said. Sunni extremists are suspected.

Militants detonated 2 parked cars filled with explosives about 2 miles (3 kilometers) apart as crowds of pilgrims passed by. Police and medical officials in Karbala, 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Baghdad, said 68 people were injured in the attacks.

The pilgrims were on their way to Karbala to play a part in in an important religious holiday, known as Shabaniyah, that attracts devout Shiites from around the country.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the Monday bombings, however the method is the hallmark of Sunni extremists.

36 pilgrims killed, 138 wounded in Baghdad blasts

http://news-updations.blogspot.comThe death toll from a string of bomb blasts targeting the Shiite pilgrims on Wednesday in Baghdad rose to 36, while at least 138 others were injured, a local police source told Xinhua.

Six pilgrims were killed and 30 others injured when a roadside bomb went off in Yarmok district in the western Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity, adding nine others were wounded in another roadside bomb explosion in Haifa street in central Baghdad.

Earlier, two pilgrims were been killed and 31 others injured in a blast in new Baghdad district, southeastern Baghdad, said the source.

The spate of attacks mainly against Shiite pilgrims in Baghdad began around the sunset, the deadliest one was carried out by a suicide bomber who blew himself up among a large crowd of pilgrims who were marching on foot in Adamiyah district of the northern Baghdad, killing 28 and wounding 68 others, said the source.

Iraqi police and emergency team sealed off the site immediately while ambulances rushed the wounded to the nearest hospitals, added the source.

Meanwhile, another explosive device planted in Altallya district in Baghdad was successfully defused
