Working overtime increases heart risk, a study finds

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/
A study found staff who clock up 10 or 11 hours a day are up to 60 percent more likely to die and suffer heart disease than lazier work-mates.

Researchers who tracked 10,000 UK civil servants aged between 39 and 61 over 11 years, found overtime junkies were more likely to heart attacks and angina – even when factors such as age, weight and smoking were included.

The increased risk was linked to working between 3 and 4 hours extra on top of a normal 7-hour day – but not 1 to 2 hours. Lead researcher Dr Marianna Virtanen, from University College London, said: “Our findings suggest a link between working long hours and increased coronary heart disease risk, but more research is needed.”

Experts said the findings highlighted the importance of work-life balance.

Study: Stomach Cancer Up In Young, White Adults

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/
CHICAGO -- Scientists are mystifying over a surprising increase in stomach cancer in young white adults and rates in all other American adults have declined.

Chances for developing stomach cancer are still very low in young adults ages 25 - 39. But a study found the incidence has climbed in the past 3 decades for whites in this age group.

National Cancer Institute (NCI) researchers and colleagues studied new cases of cancer in the lower stomach. Their findings appear in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association (AMA).

Lower stomach cancer has been linked with diets high in salt and salt-preserved foods, also low in fresh fruits and vegetables. Rates have been declining in many countries as of improved food preservation and better hygiene.

Bad habits can age you by 12 years, study suggests

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/CHICAGO - New research suggests that having 4 common bad habits can age you by 12 years.

The 4 bad habits are smoking, drinking too much, not getting enough physical activity and a poor diet.

The findings highlight yet one more reason to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The study tracked nearly 5,000 British adults for 20 years. Of those with all 4 bad habits, 29 % died. That compares to 8 % of the healthier people who didn’t have those unhealthy behaviors.

The study appears in Monday's Archives of Internal Medicine.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: E.coli food poisoning down last year

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/According to the Health officials, Americans suffered a bit less food poisoning last year.

There were significant drops in infections from “Shigella” and the most hazardous form of E. coli.

But overall food poisoning rates have been flat now for more than 5 years.

Rates of food-borne illnesses fell more dramatically as of the mid 1990s until the early 2000s and that was due mainly to improvements in the meat and poultry industries.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the report Thursday.

The study finds Kidney disease genes

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/An international team has recognized 20 genes that could help explain the causes of kidney disease.

The study could offer insights into what goes wrong in patients with kidney failure. They said that identifying the genes that control kidney function was a main step in developing new treatments for chronic kidney disease.

The team studied the genes of nearly 70,000 people across Europe & known 13 new genes that influence renal function & 7 other genes that affect the production & secretion of creatinine - a chemical waste molecule that is created from muscle metabolism & filtered through the kidneys.

The findings could let for the creation of new drugs to restore kidney function in people with chronic kidney disease or kidney failure.

Mom's exercise stabilize babies weight

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/Women who do exercise while they're pregnant have slimmer babies, new research from New Zealand shows. Because babies born to moms who didn't exercise had higher than average weights, exercise could have helped "control" the weights of the exercisers' babies.

The team randomly allotted 84 women pregnant with their first baby to up to 5, 40 minute sessions on an exercise bike at home each week or to a no-exercise group, beginning at 20 weeks of pregnancy through delivery.

While there were no differences in the women's body mass index (BMI) or weight, the women who exercised were healthier than those who didn't. The babies born to the exercisers were about 140 grams (5 ounces) lesser than the control groups, even if their average length was the same, leading to a lower BMI.

The researchers had concluded that exercise might help keep the women's sensitivity to the blood sugar regulating hormone insulin, which leans to decline in pregnancy. But there was no variation in insulin sensitivity among the exercisers & the non-exercisers.

Researchers find the key of viral infection

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/US researchers have find the solution to how a prolific virus is able to reinfect individuals despite a strong immune response, maybe opening the way for vaccines to deadly pathogens including HIV & malaria.

"In essence, cytomegalovirus (CMV) is able to cutoff an affected cell's call for elimination. This allows CMV to beat this critical immune barrier during re-infection," explained Klaus Frueh, a senior scientist at the university.

CMV infection is severely affected babies and transplant patients. It is not cruelly affected the babies. The result of the study shows how the virus may be useful as a viral vaccine vector, which would hold genetic material from other pathogens into the body.

Most vaccine is used for one time, but the capability of CMV to reinfect could make it useful as a vector for vaccines to a number of diseases, including HIV, hepatitis C, malaria parasites & tuberculosis bacteria.

High Fat Breakfast may be good for you at morning

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/Metabolic syndrome is described by abdominal obesity, high triglycerides, insulin resistance & added heart disease risk issues. The case, published in the current International Journal of Obesity, inspect how different types of foods & specific timing of eating influenced the development of metabolic syndrome in mice.

The study exposed that mice fed a meal higher in fat after waking up had normal metabolic profiles. On the other hand, they found mice that ate a carbohydrate-rich meal in the morning & a high fat meal at the end of the day had boosted weight gain, glucose intolerance & other factors related to metabolic syndrome.

"This study advised that if you ate a carbohydrate-rich breakfast it would help carbohydrate utilization during the rest of the day, but, if you have a fat-rich breakfast, you have metabolic plasticity to transfer your energy utilization among carbohydrate & fat.
