LeBron James: Great championship as Heat win NBA Finals

These used to be the moments that suffocated LeBron James. End of a game, the world watching, everybody expecting greatness. A TV camera would catch James sitting on the bench, gnawing on his fingernails throughout a rest. He'd take the court, and the ball and the match would find their way into his large hands. The pressure, the accountability to live up to his enormous faculty, was too much for him to shoulder.

No longer is James haunted by his demons. He embraces these moments nowadays, and as the final seconds ticked off the clock late Thursday, James was lastly free of the burden he had carried for so long. Finally, the world could call him a champion.

James always required a challenge to validate his greatness. It most likely won't change everyone's perception of him, but it will help, as will the way in which James has conceded himself this season. He's displayed a level of humility and openness he'd infrequently shown.

LeBron James and NBA player power

As someone who grew up in the Cleveland, Ohio, I understand the anger of the Cleveland fans over the decision of the city's superstar basketball player, LeBron James, to leave Ohio in order to join the Miami Heat. Cleveland's great institutions the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Art Museum, the Cleveland Clinic evoke pride but not much joy. Pro-sports are what that makes the news and unite Clevelanders.

When I was in junior high school, students were allowed to skip the classes and go to the opening day baseball game of the Cleveland Indians. All we had to do was to show our teacher that our parents had bought us a ticket. Supporting the team, like paying local sales taxes, was looked on to as a civic duty.

What is hard to understand in the case of the LeBron James is the rage of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. "As you now know, that our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier," Gilbert wrote in an open letter to Cleveland fans. "This shocking act of the disloyalty from our home grown 'chosen one' sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn."

LeBron James Decides to Play for Miami Heat

Lebron James, the NBA's reigning two-time MVP, ended months of the speculation and suspense by telling the world Thursday he will play for the Miami Heat next season, leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers after an unsuccessful seven-year quest for the championship he covets.

James wasted no time in making a prediction during his exclusive announcement : "We're going to be a real good team."

It's a huge victory for the Heat, who got commitments from the superstars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on Wednesday.

That duo, along with James, formed the upper echelon of the most-celebrated free-agent period in the league history.

Heat president Pat Riley landed them all, a three-pack of the stars to help shape his quest for a dynasty in Miami.

He said he decided on Thursday morning about where he would play.

"It was day-to-day," he said. "This morning work up and had a great conversation with my mom and I was set."

The number one decision maker was being able to help his team win, he said.

"I don't have any doubts about this decision," he said.
