PENTAGON OUTLINES PLANS TO IMPLEMENT 'DON'T ASK' REPEAL

The Pentagon, releasing the first details of its plan to put into practice a new law that will allow gays to serve openly in the unarmed, said today it could begin training troops in February and could be certifiably ready to drop the "don't ask, don't tell" policy by the end of 2011.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates set Feb. 4 as the target for officials to deliver their plan to integrate gays into the military

That won't come about until 60 days after the president, Gates and Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirm that the military is ready to put into operation repeal without harming readiness, helpfulness, unit cohesion, and recruiting and retention.

SKorea's defense chief resigns over NKorea attack

South Korea – South Korea's protection minister submissive Thursday amid intense disapproval two days after a North Korean weaponry attack killed four people on a small island near the Koreas' disputed border.

The move came as President Lee Myung-bak vowed to send more troops to the front-line South Korean island and as inhabitants tried to salvage possessions from the blackened ruins of their homes. Pyongyang warned of extra attacks if provoked.

Hours sooner than Defense Minister Kim Tae-young's acceptance, lawmakers had lashed out at the government, claiming officials were unqualified for Tuesday's attack and that the military retort to the North's bombardment was too slow. Still those in Lee's ruling party demanded Kim's dismissal as well as persons of military leaders and some presidential aides.

Gov't seeks stay of 'Don't ask, don't tell' ruling

The Obama management on Wednesday asked a federal appeals court to right away suspend a judge's ruling that upturned the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays.

The management says it wants the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in San Francisco to take action on Wednesday. The federal administration is preparing influence for the appeal court on why the ruling on "don't ask, don't tell" should be balanced while the case is appealed.

The Obama administration says it is in favor of repealing the law. Though, the government says that letting the ruling of U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips to go onward immediately would be a major problem for the military.
