Al Qaeda No.2 Zawahri most likely to succeed bin Laden

Egyptian-born doctor and medical doctor Ayman al-Zawahri is al Qaeda's second-in-command probable to do well Osama bin Laden subsequent his killing in a firefight with U.S. forces in Pakistan.

Zawahri has been the brains at the back bin Laden and his al Qaeda network, and at times its most public face, continually disapproving the United States and its allies in video messages.

In the latest monitored by the SITE astuteness Group last month, he urged Muslims to fight NATO and American forces in Libya.

Joyous Americans gather to mark bin Laden death

Joyous at the let go of a decade's aggravation, Americans streamed to the site of the World Trade Center, the gates of the White House and smaller but no less triumphant gathering crosswise the nation to rejoice the death of Osama bin Laden — cheering, waving flags and belting the national anthem.

Ground zero, more known these past 10 years for bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace" and solemn speeches and point of outlook over what to build to honor the Sept. 11 dead, became, for the first time, a place of celebrations.

"We've been to come a long time for this day," Lisa Ramaci, a New Yorker whose husband was a temporary journalist killed in the Iraq war, said early Monday. "I think it's a relief for New York tonight just in the intelligence that we had this 10 years of aggravation just building and building, wanting this guy dead, and at the present he is, and you can see how pleased people are."

US kills Osama bin Laden decade after 9/11 attacks

Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism and draftsman of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was killed in a firefight with elite American forces Monday, then speedily buried at sea in an eye-catching finale to a secretive decade on the run.

Long alleged to be hiding in caves, bin Laden was tracked down in a pricey, custom-built hideout not far from a Pakistani military greenhouse.

"Fairness has been done," President Barack Obama said in a theatrical statement at the White House while a crowd cheered outside and hundreds more congregated at ground zero in Manhattan to celebrate the news.

The military operation took mere minutes.

U.S. helicopters commuter boat elite counter-terrorism troops into the complex identified by the CIA as bin Laden's hideout — and back out over again in less than 40 minutes. Bin Laden was shot in the head, officials said, after he and his bodyguards resisted the attack.
