PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) – Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer became the oldest man to throw a shutout in Major League Baseball when he threw a two-hitter in a 7-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
At 47 years and 170 days, Jamie Moyer eclipsed the previous record set by Phil Niekro, who was 46 and 188 days old when he led the Cleveland Indians to victory vs. the Minnesota Twins in 1987.
"Cool," a surprisingly subdued Jamie Moyer told reporters who informed him of his achievement. "Just doing my job."
Jamie Moyer threw 105 pitches in front of a sellout crowd at Citizens Bank Park, striking out 5 Braves en route to improving his season record to 4-2.
