Mr. Ive, who can now style himself Sir Jonathan, has been made a Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE). Jonathan Ive, Apple's head of plan, has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year Honours list. From the age of 14, he said, he knew he was interested in sketch and making objects and this led him to Northumbria Polytechnic where he studied industrial design.
On graduation day he started work as a commercial designer and then, with three friends, founded a design activity called Tangerine. He's been working there for 19 years and has built up the kind of association that's very rare. Mr. Ive was apparently annoyed during his early years at Apple as the company was then suffering a refuse. Everything changed, however, in 1995 when Steve Jobs returned to the company he helped found.
