On the day that Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised to thousands of "Forgotten Australians", a victim of the child migrant scheme living in New Zealand has spoken out about the suffering he endured.
Sixty years ago Malcolm Axcell, along with hundreds of other children, arrived in New Zealand for what British authorities called "a better life".
As an 11-year-old, he thought he was arriving in New Zealand for a holiday, not a life sentence separated from his family.
"It was the beginning of a journey that I wouldn't want to follow again," he says.
