Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller' to be preserved in US film registry

Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, with that memorable graveyard dance, will rest amid the nation's treasures in the film archive in the Library of Congress.

The 1983 music video by John Landis is still the subject of lawsuits over profits. Now it is also 1 of 25 films to be selected Wednesday for preservation in the 2009 National Film Registry.

"Thriller" is the 1st music video named to the registry.

Joining the King of Pop will be the Muppets from 1979's "The Muppet Movie" the 1st time on the big screen for Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy also the 1957 sci-fi classic "The Incredible Shrinking Man," amid other titles.

The library works with movie studios to make sure original prints are kept safe also acquire a copy for preservation in its own vaults.
