MOGADISHU, Somalia — Residents in Mogadishu say 5 headless bodies have been found in a rebel-controlled area.
A resident says a few of the dead men had been threatened by Islamist militants as they had helped build Somalia’s parliament building. “Residents believe militants with the dominant insurgent group al-Shabab carried out the killings”. He added.
No group has claimed liability for the killings.
However al-Shabab in the past has beheaded individuals it accused of spying for the U.S. and U.N backed Somali government.
Islamic insurgents control much of Mogadishu and have been trying to topple the fragile government for 3 years. Somalia has not had an effectual government for 18 years.
