Israel, Palestinians agree to 2nd round of talks: Israeli and Palestinian leaders decided Thursday to produce a structure for a enduring peace deal and to hold a second round of direct talks this month, a self-effacing achievement reached among deep skepticism about achievement at their first such meeting in two years.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will meet once more on Sept. 14 and 15 in the Middle East, likely at the Egyptian Red Sea option of Sharm el-Sheik, with an eye in the direction of forging the outline of a deal that could lead to a final accord in a year's time.
The United States' special Mideast representative George Mitchell announced the concord after several hours of talks between Netanyahu and Abbas at the State Department at which the two leaders vow to work through the region's deeply deep-seated mutual hostility and suspicion to resolve the long-running conflict.
