Amazing Magnetic soap: oil spill clean-ups

The first soap that responds to magnets has established by an international team of scientists. Soap is prepared of long molecules with ends that perform in a different way: One end of the molecule is attracted to water and the other is repelled by it. Prof Eastoe said the investigate was tranquil at the laboratory stages but was already the subject of conversation.

Single iron atoms would not perform as minute individual magnets, so some other procedure had to be at effort. To get a look at what was going on in the chemical process required a view at the molecular plane. The team found a way to simply add iron atoms into the molecules. The droplets that the soap formed were attracted to a magnet, just as iron filings would be.
