New mainframe models suggest there could be many more habitable planets out there than formerly thought. The research was opened at the British Science carnival in Aberdeen. Scientists have developed models to help them identify planets in far-away solar systems that are capable of supporting life. But the specialty of this a new model is that allows scientists to spot planets with underground water kept liquid by planetary heat.
Study proves planets can receive two sources of heat - heat direct from the star and heat generated deep inside the planet. Surface water on planets located in the more frigid distant reaches from their sun is locked away as ice. According to Prof John Parnell from Aberdeen University, There is a significant habitat for microbes below the surface of the Earth, extending down several kilometers. Estimates of livable planet statistics have been based on the probability of them having surface water.
