Engineers initiate fake earthquakes: California hospital

With the help of medical equipment, engineers in California have unleashed high-intensity false earthquakes on a five-story building packed. The building was prepared with a surgical procedure and an intensive-care unit, computer servers and other electrical equipment, as well as stairs and a functioning lift.

It is the first time that the bearing system has been tested under a complete building on a quake table in the United States. According to Tara Hutchinson, an engineering professor at the University of California, San Diego, what the bearings do is uncouple the building from the motion of the floor during an earthquake, like putting the building on roller skates.
