Researchers release the initial microscope image known as Olympicene, a tiny part that resembles the five rings of the Olympics logo. It was first completed by collaborators at the University of Warwick in the UK. The images demonstrate related ring structures that are reminiscent both of the Olympic rings and an enormous many compounds made from rings of carbon atoms, together with the marvel material grapheme.
The team, based at IBM Research Zurich, announced its first achievement with a particle named as pentacene, five linked hexagonal rings of carbon all in a line. According to Prof Richards, I was in a committee meeting of the Royal Society of Chemistry where we were trying to think of what we could do to mark the Olympics.
