There are concerns that the rise in drownings in New Zealand is linked to schools closing their pools.New Zealand has one of the highest drowning rates in the world.
Last weekend a man in his 50s lost his life at sea as part the Ocean Swim Series. He's not the first, similar tragedies marked the event in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
Water Safety New Zealand says it's because children are not being taught to swim anymore.
