A man and a woman have been in prison in relation to a sequence of sexual assaults in Hamilton more than the past 6 months. The police said the pair, both in their 30s, has each been charged with 3 counts of rape and 1 of unlawful sexual connection.The charges are for 3 separate assaults since July last year. The police told the man faces an extra charge of carrying out an indecent act in a public place. They say the arrests followed information from the public that led them to search a rural property among Hamilton and Cambridge belatedly on Friday night.
A 3rd victim had contacted them on Friday morning after seeing media reporting of the other assaults. The police are advice anyone else who has been assaulted to contact them. When the pair entered in Hamilton District Court on Saturday the man was remanded in prison and the woman was approved bail till one more court appearance next week.
