Convicted murderer George Baker is holding another prisoner hostage at Auckland Prison at Paremoremo.
Baker, 27, killed youngster Liam Ashley three years ago in the back of a Chubb security van en route to jail.
He was on bail for robbing and stabbing another North Shore teenager in April 2006 and was handcuffed to 17-year-old Ashley in the rear of the van. Ashley was appearing in court as the result of a last resort attempt by his parents to teach him a lesson after taking his mother's car without permission.
