Amazing Spider silk- violin strings



A Japanese investigator has used thousands of strands of spider silk to spin a set of violin strings. Shigeyoshi Osaki of Japan's Nara Medical University has been involved in the automatic properties of spider silk for a number of years. According to Dr. Osaki Bowed thread instruments such as the violin have been the focus of many systematic studies.


 Dr Osaki suggests that it is this characteristic of the strings that lends them their strength and, critically, their distinctive pitch. The spider-silk strings withstood less anxiety before breaking than a conventional but not often used gut string, but more than an aluminium-coated, nylon-core string. That may arise from the way the strings are twisted, resulting in a packing structure that leaves almost no space amid any of the strands
