The first whole presentation of German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen's opera Mittwoch aus Licht is to premiere this summer. At the beginning of the piece, the four musicians are lifted into the air in helicopters and play to the viewers via video link.
The previous of the seven operas one for each day of the week Mittwoch is the only part of the series the creator never saw theatrical before his death in 2007. Their music is in division a response to the noise of the rotor blades and the pilot’s movement. Led by opera director Graham Vick, the construction will also feature two choirs, soaring solo instrumentalists, live electronic and audio music along with the airplane string quartet.
