In southern China the remains of what may be a previously unknown human species have been recognized. Scientists are calling them merely the Red Deer Cave people, following one of the sites where they were unearthed. The skulls and teeth from the two locations are extremely alike to each other, telling they are from the same populace.
In general, the persons had rounded brain cases with prominent brow ridges. Their skull bones were quite thick. Their faces were quite short and flat and tucked under the brain, and they had large noses. Much of the material has been in Chinese collections for some time but has recently been subjected to detailed analysis.
