UK nuclear strategy place energy in French hands


Government tactics for nuclear power peril handing control of the UK's weather and energy policies to France, according to four senior environmentalists. Mr. Cameron recently signed an accord with French President Nicolas Sarkozy to increase nuclear co-operation. As a result, it has introduced a number of changes aimed at incentivizing companies to build new nuclear power stations.


 At present, the Department of Energy and Climate Change is finalizing a bill on reforming the power market, which will efficiently present fixed prices to companies generating low-carbon power. According to Mr. Cameron the French will only proceed if the large economic risks of new nuclear build are transferred from France to British households and business. In France itself, the government recently decided to extend the life of existing reactors rather than build new ones.
