FIRE has caused more than $50,000 in spoil to a unit in a St Kilda, Melbourne, apartment block. The fire broke out in the unit, on the top level of a 3-storey complex at the corner of Wellington Street & Marlton Crescent, soon after 11pm (AEDT) last night.Metropolitan Fire Brigade Commander Trevor Woodward told the fire was limited to a bedroom and bathroom in the unit. All other rooms were precious by smoke, water & heat damage. The unit was untenanted at the time of the fire.
Residents from other apartments on the top floor are evacuated but have ever since returned to their homes. The cause of the fire is not known but has been deemed distrustful. Fire cause investigators will examine the scene afterward today.
