Host star destroy extra-solar planet: Astronomers

http://www.news-updations.blogspot.com/BEIJING: A newly discovered extra-solar planet, which is almost double of Jupiter's volume, is being distorted & damaged by its host star, giving an exclusive chance to astronomers to examine how a planet go into final stage of its life.

An international team of astronomers has initiated that a massive planet 'WASP-12b', which was discovered in 2008, is being unclear & destroyed by its host star. "This is the 1st time that astronomers are witnessing the ongoing trouble & death march of a planet".

WASP-12b is 1 of the most enigmatic of 400-plus planets that have been established outside our solar system over the earlier period 15 years. It orbits a star, in the constellation Auriga, roughly similar in mass to our sun, told lead author Shu-lin Li from the National Astronomical Observatories of China.

It’s also bigger than astrophysical models would predict. Its mass is calculated to be nearly 50 % larger than Jupiter's & 80 % larger than Jupiter's volume. It is also abnormally hot, with a daytime temperature of more than 2500°C.
