The soldier from 1 search, serving in 3 Rifles Battle Group, was killed on Sunday afternoon in the Sangin area of Helmand province. The Ministry of Defence told next of kin had been informed.
One more British soldier was killed in a firefight with insurgents on Sunday morning. From 2001, 272 UK service workers have died in Afghanistan.
"We have lost one of our comrades & he will be sorely missed but his boldness & his selfless commitment to this fight will not be forgotten." Lt Col David Wakefield said. The soldier killed in the gun battle on Sunday morning was from A Company 4 Rifles, more over the part of the 3 Rifles Battle Group. His name is yet to be released by the MoD.
