UN troops are backing the DR Congo army in the operation dubbed "Amani Leo", which is aiming the rebel, self-ruled Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda in the 2 Kivu provinces nearby on Rwanda.The disgusting is a follow-up to an assault carried out among March & December last year, which drove the rebels away from densely settled areas but did not get the goal of defeating them.
"2 operations have been completed in Kashebere & Mayengara at Nord-Kivu. In this operation 23 killed, 40 surrendered & 2 destroyed," Madnodje Mounoubai, spokesperson for the UN force MONUC, told a press briefing.
In adjacent Sud-Kivu province, 4 processes have been achieved, with 67 FDLR killed, 28 surrendered & 47 weapons recovered.
