Clinton in Russia for nuke, Mideast converse

Hillary Clinton will use up Thursday in chats with superior Russian officials, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Both sides have spoken optimism that they can attain a long-delayed agreement to lessen their nuclear warheads to nearly 1,500 each before a worldwide summit on nuclear non-explosion in Washington next month.

Both sides have been trying to discuss a successor to the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which ended in December. On Friday, Clinton will represent the U.S. in a conference with other associates of the Mideast Quartet the United Nations, the European Union & Russia.

The team has been working to negotiate a peace deal among Israel & the Palestinian government. However Israel's announcement last week of plans to make 1,600 housing units in disputed East Jerusalem drew a rebuke from the United States.
