Women Who Drink Moderately Gain fewer Weight

http://news-updations.blogspot.com/
Women who have a drink or 2 a day seem to gain a smaller amount weight than nondrinkers, a new study suggests.

Researchers studied 19,220 women older than 38 who started at a normal weight; they establish that over a 13-year period, abstainers gained more weight than infrequent or moderate drinkers, HealthDay reports.

Why? Women who drink might substitute alcohol for food calories, or else alcohol may stoke metabolism in women (but not in men), the authors wrote and the results are published in Archives of Internal Medicine.
