A group of 18 scientists from Australia, France and New Zealand will go away today on a six-week journey to Antartica today to explain Japan's annual kill of whales for scientific purposes is needless.
The group will leave from Wellington with the aim of proving that non-lethal study could give all the information wanted to realize and keep whales.
Australian Antarctic Division acting chief scientist Steve Nicol says the researchers will learn whale biology and their shock on the ecosystem of the iced up continent.
Japan at present has six-ship whaling navy in Antarctic waters as division of its scientific whaling plan.
