South Africa is deporting 22 Ugandans who were under arrest over charges of breaking immigration ruling last year. The detainees among ages 23-50 were under arrest for the period of the Christmas season. South African officials said they entered the state unlawfully as others had expired visas.
Ugandan assignment led by Internal Affairs State Minister Matia Kasaija has visited the 22 Ugandans who were under arrest at South African repatriation centre in Krugersdorp last week.A few of the detainees had admitted they were with no valid papers or visas.
“We are not criminals, we simply came to look for greener pastures, make an extra coin and spend home,” a part of the delegation quoted a few of the captives as telling the Ugandan officials, according to every day Monitor.
Kasaija has confirmed that the detainees will be sent home any time quickly. He urged Ugandans to use legal papers when embarking on trips abroad. “Having a passport is a correct. No one should threat life once more in such a way,” Kasaija said. The Ugandan detainees would be repatriated in 2 groups start from this week
